Roofing systems in Florida need to be wind resistant. Architectural roof shingles, or, dimensional roof shingles as they are also called provide better wind resistance than 3-tab shingles.
These asphalt shingles weigh less than other types of roofing systems like metal roofs and tile roofs and therefore do not require weight and support reinforcements that can also drive up installation and replacement costs.
Architectural shingles have a long life and last well past 20 years when they are installed properly and verified by registration to be of quality materials.
Although there are increasing lines of architectural shingles types such as hail resistant dimensional shingles, it is a cost factor that if a property is insured, the cost to place something more expensive may not be offset in the long run.
